When a company embarks on a renovation, it is often for strategic purposes. CIT decided to renovate its current location while it was still occupied. The upgrades that went into CIT Manhattan’s 86,000-square-foot office included the integration of the company’s “Workplace of the Future” design standards and the introduction of amenity spaces like a conference center and an expanded cafe and social hub at the building outdoor terrace.
To reflect the users of the space, we got creative and thought young—and planned and designed accordingly. Traditional workstations were kept to a small footprint, letting us plan the balance of the space in an open and flexible way to support a variety of workstyles.

The Google 9th floor renovation project is located at 111 Eighth Avenue in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. This renovation is part of Google’s focused approach to creating the best and healthiest working environment for Google employees. The Commons connects floors 8, 9, 10, and 11 floor, and features a large atrium that is a unique experience within the building. An open and attractive stair encourages Googlers towards physical activity. An outdoor landscaped terrace and large windows provide a connection to the exterior. Occupants can experience climate and weather patterns from inside or outside. They can also observe more closely the seasonal patterns of the terrace ecosystem with its plant, bird, and insect life. The Commons has become the dynamic heart of Google NYC. It is a grand circulation spine and casual collision-driven environment. The variety of micro-kitchens, focus and collaborative spaces encourages Googlers and visitors to move throughout the space. They have the freedom to choose locations based on individual or team needs and as appropriate for quiet, relaxing, or active social moments. The views sweeping from the Manhattan skyline across the Hudson River to the Hudson River Palisades inspired a design of an equally grand scale. The vertical space lent itself to a multi-leveled design concept of a cross-section of the local ecosystem.

Improving business performance, turning risk and compliance into opportunities, developing strategies and enhancing value are at the core of what we do for leading organizations requires a smart design. At KPMG’s 560 Lexington Avenue office, their clients can go beyond simple discussion and dive deep into the data and analytics that are driving business with a space that defies the expected. KPMG’s New York Ignition space is a unique environment that encourages collaboration and technology-driven solutions and is home to the Insights Center and Innovation Lab. These spaces provide interactive access to KPMG’s extensive database and expertise to make sense of the future and how they can rise to meet it.
The design is intended to take visitors out of the typical office experience and create a subtle, sophisticated space to explore what is possible. Geometric forms are highlighted by high-contrast carpet and dynamic lighting. The main feature of the space is a bold conference table that is meant to draw the eye towards a digital wall where all the information is displayed. Glass walls create a blank canvas for notes and brainstorming ideas, and everything is driven by a control desk.
